All About Widgets

Introduction To Widgets

One of the ways you can “tweak” your blog is through the use of widgets. Widgets are little applications that you can access and place in your sidebar(s). These widgets include the “About Me”, “Recent Posts” and “Recent Comments” widgets.

Section 1: Finding Your Widgets

To access your widgets all you need to is log into your account and click on the link that says “Presentation “

And then click the sub menu item labeled Widgets

Once you have done this a new page will appear that will allow you to pick and choose which widgets you would like to use, where they will go and on most you can also customize them a bit.

Section 2: The Widget Page

When you get to the widget page you will see a header that reads:sidebar_arrangement.gif

Below this you will see

side_bar.gif

This where you will drag and drop widgets from the Available widget area. The Available Widget area is just below the box shown above. (Please note: If the theme you are using has two sidebars there will be a similar box beside this one that says Sidebar 2.)

Section 3: Dragging and Dropping Widgets

To use a widget you must drag it from the “Avalable Widgets” area to the “Sidebar Arrangement” area above it. To do this simply left click on the widget you want to use and then while still holding down the left mouse button drag it up and into the sidebar arrangement box above. Repeat this process until all the widgets you want to use are above in the sidebar arrangement box.

Section 4: Customizing Widgets

Most widgets can be customized to some extent. Once in the sidebar arrangement box if the widget has a ( edit_widget.gif) edit widget box beside the widget name it can be customized. To customize the widget click on the edit widget box. edit_widget.gif A new window will appear that looks somewhat like this:

Whatever the widget is the title for that widget will appear in the upper left corner of this window. Each widget is different and what is customizable is also different so what type of text fields will appear will depend on the widget. In this example this is the RSS widget which allows you to specify the URL to the feed, give the feed a title and asks you how many items you would like to display.
